Passion = Finance, I enjoy the intricacies and technicalities that the realm of Finance brings me. From raw data crunching to regression analysis, behavioral economics, technology, biosciences. Finance encompasses elements of multiple fields along with the realism of the capital markets, just brings so much dynamism to the otherwise mundane life of a working adult. Graduated from Imperial College London with an MSc in Finance & Accounting and was part of EY London’s graduate program. Currently, a Part Qualified Chartered Accountant & Chartered Financial Analyst with strong interests in the alternative investment industry. After 5 years in the U.K, I thought London life was enough for me and decided to relocate back to Singapore. Now, a Fund Accountant by day and an Entrepreneur by night. Working in an advisory role with investment funds (Hedge funds, Private Equity/Venture Capital Funds) to help them navigate through the intricacy of regulations. As a keen learner of the startup ecosystem, I devote part of my time to learn and get involved in angel investing as well as maintaining an investment portfolio of stocks and REITs for capital appreciation. I believe strongly in sharing your knowledge and skills for the greater good of humanity and have since worked on several pro-bono projects ranging from financial valuations of social enterprises, business plan reviews to designing of marketing strategies. Several years ago, a serendipitous event inspired me to entrepreneurship and saw myself as a builder, someone who seeks to create value through executing relentlessly on innovative ideas and a firm believer of hardware. There is nothing greater than impacting the lives of many within your community, empowering them to achieve greater heights or simply inspiring them to pursue their dreams, and I’m extremely passionate about it! I started my first company, Boost Venture a biotech company with the objective of transforming slum areas into self-sustaining eco-city. Funded by UnLtd, and incorporated in Kenya, the company is working with various volunteering groups to address massive water sanitation and waste management problems in Kibera slum.
Having experienced the adrenaline rush of starting a company, the hustle, the long hour grinds and the intellectual challenges involved in solving problems that actually matters, I chanced upon a great opportunity while browsing through Angelist. Manage to get involved with DeepSix Ventures a deepwater drone company, working alongside 2 other very talented co-founders Kohen(Product Designer) and James(Mechanical Engineer), with a vision to bring underwater exploration to the masses. We were extremely lucky to have raised a €100,000 seed round from some extremely helpful investors, DeepSix will now be based in Rotterdam to further develop our product and bring deep sea exploration to everyone! 70% of the Earth is covered with water, however 95% of our ocean still remains unexplored. The company is on a mission to introduce affordable ROVs with industrial capabilities to enhance human’s ability to explore the ocean, and in the process create a greater interest within the maritime industry.
Outside the hustle and bustle of life, I enjoy reading along with a nicely brewed cup of tea or coffee(currently learning more about coffee). Reading has brought so much insights to my life over a wide range of topics and in the process, inspired me to create a social project around my passion. IFY Reads went live in Jan’2017 to bring affordable eBooks to the masses, empowering non-readers to pick up their first book and avid readers to continue gaining access to a wide array of books. Through IFY Reads and its social initiative IFY Cares, I hope to address a social cause close to my heart, where the underprivileged communities are stifled off regular access to books due to the lack of resources.
IFY Reads gave me a glimpse into the world of eCommerce and learned the art of SEO, which intrigues and amazes me greatly, in particular how Search algorithms work and how we as end users receive new information. An opportunity came along which led to the start of Ethan Trading & Services an import/export company specializing in industrial machinery. With more than 30 years of trading experience on the team, Ethan Trading & Services is well positioned to advice businesses within Asia Pacific region and beyond on getting the right machinery to address their business needs. Employing SEO and digital marketing strategies, the company strives to expand its already growing business to the wider region.
